“My vision has been deteriorating since my teenage years, and I was angry about the loss of no longer being able to drive, read small print or even recognize really big signs. My ophthalmologist confirmed that my vision could no longer be corrected with glasses. He referred me to the BVIC where I was assured that I could maintain my independence with the help of technology and training. I can now type letters and access the internet using assistive software. Specialized bioptic glasses and a video magnifier have eased many frustrations helping me to read letters, menus, and cooking directions. My new mobility skills enable me to navigate sidewalks, walking trails and public transportation using a long cane. All of these activities were made possible by the supportive staff at the BVIC.”
